Why Pelita Adil
What Thoughtful Representation Looks Like
We Listen Before We Advise
Family matters carry weight that goes beyond documents and court dates. Every client who comes through our door is met first with a listening ear, and only then with legal analysis.
Plain-Language Explanations
Malaysian family law is complex. We translate statutes and procedural steps into straightforward English so you can make decisions with a clear head, not a confused one.
Your Pace, Not Ours
There are no contrived deadlines here. We work to timelines that reflect your readiness and the genuine requirements of the courts — nothing more, nothing less.
Confidential and Discreet
Everything shared within our walls remains within our walls. We maintain strict professional discretion as a matter of both legal obligation and personal commitment.
Transparent, Fixed Fees
Each service carries a clear, stated fee. You will not encounter unexpected charges or vague billing — the figure you see is the figure you pay.
Penang-Based, Malaysia-Aware
We are anchored in Penang and familiar with the courts, registrars, and institutions relevant to family law across Peninsular Malaysia.
Common Questions
Questions We Hear Often
How long does a mutual consent divorce typically take in Malaysia?
Once all documents are in order and both parties have signed, the court process under Section 52 of the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act typically takes between three and six months, depending on the caseload at the relevant High Court. We will give you a realistic estimate once we have reviewed your particular circumstances.
What factors affect a spousal maintenance order in Malaysia?
Courts consider the financial means and earning capacity of each spouse, the length of the marriage, the standard of living established during the marriage, and the needs of any children. Our advisory session walks through each of these factors in the context of your specific situation.
Is the Comprehensive Family Affairs Plan a one-time engagement?
The initial preparation of your family file is a single, complete engagement at the stated fee. We offer an optional annual review for clients who wish to revisit their arrangements as circumstances evolve — this is entirely at your discretion and there is no obligation to continue.
Can Pelita Adil handle matters if one spouse is based outside Malaysia?
Yes, in many cases this is manageable. We frequently correspond with clients abroad by email and video call, and certain steps can be completed through properly authenticated documents. Please reach out and we will assess what is workable for your particular situation before you commit to anything.
How is the fee for each service structured?
Each service is offered at a single, stated fee that covers all standard work within that engagement. Court filing fees, where applicable, are itemised separately at cost. We will discuss this with you clearly before you commit, so there are no surprises.
Will my information be kept private?
All information you share with our firm is protected by strict professional and legal confidentiality obligations. Nothing shared during an advisory session or in the course of a retainer will be disclosed to any third party without your knowledge and consent, except where required by Malaysian law.
